In business you’re either growing or dying. The surest way to begin dying is to drift away from consumer visibility. How on earth do you expect your business to flourish if you’re hiding in your office just hoping someone decides to walk in the door?
This is a subject that has been absolutely driving me nuts lately. I have watched in complete awe as businesses around the world react to the recession by cutting all marketing initiatives. Don’t get me wrong… I completely understand the need to get a tight grip on spending and to make sure that you measure every dollar spent. However, you don’t have to sink big bucks into traditional ad campaigns to stay visible. That’s the beauty of today’s marketing world: you can use blogs, Facebook, Twitter, work on your website’s optimization, launch an adwords campaign or invest in potentially explosive and inexpensive online viral campaigns. Or why not use good old fashion face-to-face conversation and hustle? Pick up the phone and start calling folks. Lastly, if you are willing to make a strategic investment, there couldn’t be a better time to launch a well planned, designed and executed ad campaign. Media outlets have cut their ad rates, your competitors are in hiding, and people are once again beginning to spend some money. Take advantage of the opportunity right in front of you to grab market share. Businesses will look back on the next year and realize it was a golden opportunity. Those who take action will grow, while those who stay in hiding will die a little every day.
