Shorts At Work…New Definition of Business Casual

I feel a little weird at work today. Not because I had bad sushi last night. Not because I had too much to drink. Not because I had an awkward moment in a meeting. I feel weird because I’m drafting this post in shorts.

We’re a really casual office environment 90% of the time. We only wear our big boy clothes when we have a client meeting. The remainder of the time is spent pumping out inspiring design solutions in jeans and t-shirts. But, going to shorts is a new level of casual. I’m not sure why it feels like such a huge step, but it definitely did to me this morning. I spent five minutes contemplating my shorts choice before taking the leap.

Well, I can report that wearing shorts has not made me any less productive. In fact, today has been an action packed day of production for me. I’m ticking things off my to do list left and right. I think my added comfort has aided in my production. And I’m willing to bet our employees feel the same freedom and comfort. So, we’re going to make a cultural (work attire) change at Harvest. Shorts are now officially allowed….most of the time.

Are we one of the only spots allowing shorts? Are there other folks that do serious work in not so serious clothes? Can we give a new meaning to business casual?
